Pichon by Icons8: A Desktop Library for Icons, Photos, and Illustrations

Pichon is a lightweight desktop application from Icons8 that gives access to the company's graphic assets, including icons, photos, and illustrations. It can be downloaded from the Icons8 website or the Microsoft Store.

Account Sync and Main Menu

After installation, signing in through the profile icon in the top-right corner syncs user data with Pichon. This unlocks paid features included in a subscription plan and makes saved collections available. The main menu, opened from the hamburger icon in the top-left corner, groups the program's controls:

• File imports personal vector files and exports selected images to a chosen folder.
• Edit handles renaming and deleting uploaded vectors, along with searching, selecting, and copying images.
• Settings switches between simplified and non-simplified SVGs, shows subscription options, and displays the credit count.
• Theme toggles between light and dark modes.
• Help and About provide links to the knowledge base, support contacts, license documents, and update options.

Organizing Icons, Styles, and Categories

Icons are arranged into Collections, Styles, and Categories. Collections hold bookmarked and downloaded icons by default, and users can create and manage their own collections. The Styles tab lists the visual styles in which icons are offered, while Categories sort icons by theme and subject. Search covers all styles by default and can be narrowed to a single style.

Search, Context Menu, and Recoloring

Right-clicking an image opens a context menu with Save As, Search in this Style, Add to Collection, and Quick look. Images can also be dragged into any collection. The Recolor option, located at the top right of search results, sets icon and background colors through a color picker, a HEX code entry field, or a preset palette. Recoloring applies only to monochrome native Icons8 icons. Colored icons and icons created by third-party authors cannot be recolored.

Downloading and Exporting

Selecting one or more icons opens a panel on the right that shows each asset's title and style name, with options for .PNG, .SVG, .PDF, and .ICO formats in several sizes. After choosing a size and format, the green download button at the bottom saves the files to a selected folder. Exporting is also available through File, then Export. Collections can be downloaded in bulk, recolored as a whole, exported, shared, and renamed or deleted, and vector images can be uploaded into them.

Photos and Illustrations

Illustrations are organized by Categories and Styles, while photos are organized by Categories only. Searching works the same way as for icons, and a left-side panel offers category filters. Illustrations also support style filtering. The context menu for these assets includes Save As and Quick look. Both photos and illustrations can be downloaded as PNG, and vector illustrations are also available as SVG, in several sizes.
